In Science we have been exploring the concepts of hot and cold and most recently looking at what are good conductors and  insulators.

We need your help! Students in grade two are helping Mrs. Krahn keep her water cold! Our brilliant students have accepted the task of designing a container to help keep her water as cold as possible throughout the day. To help them with this task, we are asking families to send in common household items such as:
  1.  - aluminum foil
  2. - plastic
  3. - newspaper
  4. - cling wrap
  5. - wax paper
  6. - cardboard
  7. - bubble wrap
  8. -fabric
  9. -plastic water bottle or other container to hold water(not an already insulated one!)
  10. - any thing else you think may be a good insulator!
  11.
Please note, we are not asking families to purchase these items, but rather, gather items they are willing to part with from around the house. We will be collecting items from Monday and Tuesday of next week.. Thank you for supporting our learning

Snowshoeing

Tomorrow our class will be trying snowshoeing for the first time!  As long as the temperature is warm enough, we will be going out at 10:20 to practice.  Please ensure you have sent back the blue permission form with your child.  Ensure they have snowpants, warm jacket, winter boots, mitts and a winter hat.  If you want to help volunteer put on snowshoes, just email me.  We will be going out on Wednesday at the same time, and again next week at 10:20.

We didn''t get to sign out new books in the learning commons today as Ms. Brock was away.  Hopefully we will get a chance this week to sign them out.

Technology and Truthfulness

This week we have been using technology by using the laptops and ipads.  Students have been exploring different educational sites and are encouraged to think critically about if each site is just for fun or is it educational.  We have also talked about digital citizenship and how to be safe online.  Next week we will continue the discussion about ensuring you say kind things online and what to do if you end up in a site or an ad that is not appropriate.

Tomorrow students are invited to dress in colours of country they are from or are supporting for the opening of Olympics!!

Go Canada!!

In Language Arts we have been learning more about the story elements; characters, setting, problem and solution.  Students have been working in small groups to brainstorm a list of possible characters, settings and problem.  The next step is to take those suggestions, narrow it down to a few chosen characters and start the writing process.  Some groups have chosen to all write the same story together while others have chosen to write their own stories but using the same character and setting. It will be interesting to see what ideas they come up with.

In our school assembly  this morning we learned about friendship, how  to make new friends and how to problem solve with your friends if there is an issue.  Talk to your kids about what they learned.

Have a warm and safe weekend.
