Orange Shirt Day and Terry Fox Run Friday

Good afternoon!

Just a quick reminder that tomorrow is our Terry Fox run(bring a Toonie) and assembly and we are also recognizing Orange Shirt day.  We talked in class today about a First Nations woman named Phyllis who was sent to a Residential school and had her new orange shirt taken away from her on her first day of school. Phyllis's message is that every child matters.  The students did some great writing about how they can make sure that they show others that they matter.

Why we love Alberta

Today we read a booked called "Why I Love Alberta" and then worked in small groups to talk about what we each loved about living in this wonderful province.  Ask your child what they like about living here.

Library books are due back on Wednesday.  Next week we will be back on track for Monday.

Home reading books can be exchanged on Thursday.

September

Welcome to grade 2!  We have had a busy first week, getting to know each other, setting routines and class expectations. Our class listened to the story "What if you Had Animal Feet" written by Sandra Markle and discussed what kind of feet they would rather have.  Students did some writing about the different animals and the facts they learned.  On Friday, we did a small group activity where they had to work together to create the longest paper chain with only 2 pieces of paper and 1 piece of tape.  It was interesting to watch them work together, sharing ideas, making sure each person in the group had a job.  We discussed the task afterwards and they were all able to share how they worked together.
A great first week!
