Volunteers Needed for 1.5 hours on Friday for our butterfly release! Please see the note below and email me at dmkrahn@cbe.ab.ca if you can join us. We will not be able to go on the walk without at least 1 volunteer.
For the past three weeks, the Grade 2’s have been observing, learning about and caring for 12 Painted Lady Butterflies. We have watched as they grew from tiny caterpillars, created their chrysalises and are now emerging as butterflies. This is part of our Science curriculum, as it provides opportunities for students explore special characteristics that help butterflies to survive their environments, observe the life cycle of a butterfly, and participate in caring for a small animal for a few weeks.
On Friday, May 25, 2018, the Grade 2’s will be walking to the Evanston Pond to release our Painted Lady Butterflies. We will be walking to the pond, releasing and observing the butterflies in this natural habitat, then returning to the school.
To participate in this activity, students are required to bring weather appropriate gear, such as a wind breaker jacket, a hat, sunglasses and running shoes.
As with any outdoor activity, if inclement weather occurs, the walk will be cancelled. Possible risks associated with our walk include falling or tripping on the sidewalk or the area surrounding the pond. Precautions will be taken to ensure safety of your child, including ensuring shoelaces are tied, appropriate outdoor gear will be worn, and students will walk to and from the pond with a buddy.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher.
Kind regards,
Grade Two team

Pancake breakfast
Despite the rain, we had a great morning for our annual pancake breakfast in the gym. The students enjoyed the food, seeing the mascots and visiting with some of the parents that were able to attend.
Hopefully everyone enjoyed the weekend and all the sunshine and appreciated the card your child made for you.
Today we had book exchange and enjoyed some time exploring materials in the Makerspace. We are just finishing up our unit learning about Nunavut and the Inuit people. Next we will be learning about the east coast and traditions from that region.
In Math we have been working hard on learning strategies for subtraction before moving on this week to patterning.
