Nunavut

In Social studies we read a story called T is for Territories and learned more about what kind of plants, animals and people make up the territory of Nunavut.  Today we did an art project on one of the animals found that far north, the polar bear.  Students were to colour the inside of the polar bear with cool colours and the surrounding areas with warm colours.  Ask your child to tell you which colours are warm and cool!  In Science we are learning about liquids and the water cycle.  Your child should know evaporation, condensation and precipitation.
We have also started reading Roald Dahl's book The BFG, the class is enjoying all the juicy made up words in this creative story.

Just a reminder that Thursday is a half day, students will be dismissed at 12pm and there is no school on Friday.  First day back is Tuesday April 3!  I hope you all enjoy the break and time together.

Inline Skating

My apologies for not posting last week!

We had our first session of inline skating this afternoon.  We have skating again on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week in the afternoon.  If your child has a helmet from skating or biking, please feel free to send it tomorrow and we will return in Wednesday afternoon.

Last week was busy with building our insulating water bottles and testing them  out today.  Everyone understood the project and were able to speak about their own water bottle and why it worked or didn't work keeping the water cold.  We talked about what we do differently next  time like good scientists.

Assembly

Our assembly went very well this morning and I am proud of the entire class and how well they did during the readers theatre.  Everyone read with interest and spoke loudly and clearly enough to be understood.  We will be continuing to learn more about Nunavut in the coming weeks.
With all the work preparing for the assembly, we did not have time to build our insulator projects.
If you haven't sent in supplies, please do so on Monday.  This includes a small water/juice/pop bottle and materials your child thinks will make good insulators.

Thanks,

Mrs. Krahn
